In Faculty I, 37 professors teach subjects including law, public administration, business administration and economics, sociology, psychology and computer science. Around 40 per cent of the courses are taught by instructors drawn primarily from state and local government, the administrative and civil courts, as well as from law firms and commercial businesses.
Faculty I covers the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Senior Civil Service – Public Management, Digital Public Administration, General Financial Administration – Public Financial Management and Pension Insurance.
In collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Kehl and Faculty II of the Ludwigsburg University of Applied Sciences (HVF), Faculty I has been running the four-semester international Master’s programme in ‘European Public Administration’ with great success since 2002.
The part-time Master of Public Management (MPM) programme, which trains qualified managers in the public sector, has been on offer since 2010.
Faculty I also provides the legal, administrative and economic modules for the diploma programme in Archival Studies at the Marburg School of Archival Studies, as well as for the Cultural and Educational Management programmes at the Ludwigsburg University of Education.
Within the limits of the law, the Faculty governs its own affairs. To ensure that courses are delivered properly, the Faculty Council, the Faculty Executive Board and the Study Committees for the respective degree programmes act on behalf of the Faculty.
Day-to-day academic operations are largely organised by the deans of studies, who also each chair a programme committee for the degree programme they oversee.
All information regarding the programme committees for the respective degree programmes within Faculty I can be found on the intranet.
The Faculty Executive Board – comprising the Dean and three Vice-Deans – governs the faculty. It determines the teaching responsibilities of the professors and is responsible, in particular, for the following tasks:
As a result of the exercise of the right to vote provided for in Section 25(3) of the LHG, and by way of derogation from Section 25(2) of the LHG, the Faculty Council comprises all full-time teaching staff of the Faculty (Section 10 of the HVF’s Statutes) and, consequently, at least six students, as well as other members
