Competence Centre for Electoral Affairs (CCEA)
Electoral affairs were no big issue in the 20th Century. Elections took more or less place in polling stations and the results were regularily so clear, that no one doubted them. Since 2000, when the big legal battle between the attorneys of George W. Bush and Al Gore was fought before the Supreme Courts of Florida and the United States, the situation is different. In recent times majorities became even more narrow, if we take for instance the Election to the State Assembly of Thuringia in 2019, the FDP entered with just 73 votes above the Five-percent-threshold whilst in the Austrian Federal State of Burgenland in 2010 literally one single vote decided about the entry of the "Liste Burgenland" into the State Assembly.
